More charter yachts are based in the BVI than anywhere else in the world. Blessed with the natural attributes of clear, tranquil waters; uncounted islands and cays in close proximity; and a benevolent subtropical climate - it is really no wonder that over 300 charter yachts have chosen to call the BVI home. New Government legislation will further enhance and diversify this sector of the BVI economy.
The unspoiled natural beauty of our islands - white, sandy beaches; quiet private coves; rolling hills and lush, green valleys - has also attracted the development of land-based accommodations. These are comprised of resorts, hotels, villas, and small inns. Other water-related activities of significant size include scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing and sports fishing.
Cruiseship arrivals have increased dramatically in recent years, with continued growth expected through the 90s. Visa/Entry Requirements Short stay visitors who are nationals of the U.S.A. or Canada can be admitted on proof of citizenship other than passport, e.g. birth certificate, voters registration card. All other visitors should have a valid passport. Visitors should also be in possession of a return or onward ticket. Guyanese nationals require a visa. Visitors from certain other countries may also need a visa. If in doubt, contact the Chief Immigration Officer, Government of the BVI, Road Town, Tortola, Tel (284) 494-3701. An International Vaccination Certificate is not mandatory in the BVI. Vaccinations against smallpox, yellow fever and cholera are required if the visitor is arriving from an endemic area.
